11-year-old Riley is a happy, hockey-loving, Midwestern girl who has her world turned upside-down when she and her parents move to San Francisco. Riley's emotions, led by the always upbeat and effervescent Joy, try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing move. However, the stress of the Bay Area relocation brings the dour sour-puss Sadness to the forefront of Riley's emotional center. When Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the deep recesses of Riley's mind, the only emotions left at HQ are Anger, Fear, and Disgust. This unprepared trio has to help Joy and Sadness get home while also trying to keep Riley's sometimes volatile emotions in check.
