It's
Fresh Veggie Time!
Now's
the time to reap the delicious harvest of
what you've sewn this past spring. Your
vegetable garden should be offering up plenty
of great tastes.
And
to keep the fresh flavor going, keep the
water flowing because there's still plenty
of growing going on. Check your garden beds
often by poking your finger into the soil
and feeling for moisture about an inch down.
If it's dry, pull out your hoses and water.
Remember,
it's always best to water in the early morning
because plants that are properly hydrated
have a better chance of making it through
hot days. And use soaker hoses because they
deliver water directly into the ground.
And
start planning now for your fall
salad garden. Prime time for planting
those cooler-growing/fall crops like lettuce,
salad greens, herbs, turnips and Brussels
sprouts is coming soon.
Here's
to some good eatin' fresh out of your garden…
While
much of the information in these tips is
applicable in several gardening zones/climates,
some of the plants and timing suggested
are best suited to the Northwest, generally
in the mild/wet growing regions found along
the I-5 corridor. You should make appropriate
adjustments or consult local gardening experts
in regions whose climates differ from this
area of the Northwest.
