March
is a great time to plant perennials!
Many
people wait until things have really warmed up
to plant perennials. But you get a lot more for
your money by planting many perennial varieties
now*. Here's why.
Lower
costs + better results =
2 great reasons to plant now!
By getting
an early jump on planting, you can plant the starter-size
perennials available now* in your Fred Meyer Garden
Center. These perennials in 4" pots or mini flats
of 3-6 plants are far less costly than the larger
perennials available later this spring.
And
the cool spring weather and rains allow these
plants to do a lot of growing below ground, where
strong root systems can become established. Then
as the weather warms up, you should see an explosion
of growth above ground.
Starter
perennials planted about now often outperform
those more expensive gallon-size varieties planted
later in the season. Plus they're primed for coming
back even stronger next year.
So now's
a great time to work those garden beds and plant
perennials. And for more great information

*While
much of the information in these tips is applicable
in several gardening zones/climates, some of the
plants and timing suggested are best suited to
the Northwest, generally in the mild/wet growing
regions found along the I-5 corridor. You should
make appropriate adjustments or consult local
gardening experts in regions whose climates differ
from this area of the Northwest.
