As the trees in your yard change color, you can complement the look by adding certain colorful plants to your flowerbeds, borders and patio pots. Fall Magic™ is a wonderful collection of plants chosen specifically for their superior garden performance in the fall and winter. The majority of varieties are perennials, many are evergreen and all are capable of handling a frost without damage to foliage or flowers. Mix with pansies, violas and other fall-blooming flowers for unusual and interesting containers and gardens. Here are a few examples...

Tricolor: Purple leaves with white borders that turn pink when temperatures drop. Try cooking with this colorful version of sage.

Purpurancens: Its egg plant-colored leaves are so hardy, they can even survive frost.

You'll surely be impressed with the hardiness and quality of these plants. And there's no magic to saving money — you'll find them at Fred Meyer!

While much of the information in these tips is applicable in several gardening zones/climates, some of the plants and timing suggested are best suited to the Northwest, generally in the mild/wet growing regions found along the I-5 corridor. You should make appropriate adjustments or consult local gardening experts in regions whose climates differ from this area of the Northwest.
