BirdhousesFeeder Types & Applications

Many people have found a real joy in creating feeding stations for birds. Set outside your kitchen, living room, or family room window, bird feeders attract a lot of life and activity. Let's take a look at the types of feeders you use to attract different birds.

  • Hopper Self-refilling style is good for most birds, especially larger ones. Excellent feeder for black oil sunflower seeds.
  • Tube Caters to smaller birds with its multiple feeding stations and smaller perches. Bottom seed trays allow larger birds to land and feed. Excellent for black oil sunflower seeds. Special variation has tiny seed ports for thistle feeding.
  • Globe Specialized feeder for "clinging" birds, such as goldfinches, chickadees, and nuthatches. Ideal for black oil sunflower seeds and sunflower hearts.
  • Table or Platform Good for all birds when positioned above ground. Especially good for ground feeders when placed low. Use black oil sunflower seeds, mixed seeds, millet, cracked corn, peanut pieces, and thistle.
  • Window Offers great year-around viewing... children love this one. Excellent for sunflower hearts and peanut pieces.
  • Suet Caged feeders hold suet blocks and allow "clinging" birds to feed through holes.
  • Hummingbird Feeders A real favorite for attracting the color, speed, and aerial acrobatics of this small but fascinating bird. Holds nectar.

So get a feeder and start enjoying the fascinating company of our winged friends. All it takes is a stop at your Fred Meyer Garden Center!
