Lush
foliage, fragrant blooms, dazzling
colors... Tropical varieties
make ideal container specimens
because they grow so rapidly
and flower so quickly and profusely.
You can treat them as annuals,
replacing plants each season,
or simply move containers to
a protected location when cooler
weather arrives.
Gardenias
are a delight when
placed near walkways, doors
or windows where their rich
perfume can can be appreciated
with each passing.
Agapanthus
is a native of Africa
where its exotic blooms are
found along the Nile river.
It makes a superb container
plant and adapts well to life
near swimming pools.
With
its lush foliage and striking
colors, Bougainvillea
is a real show stopper.
A vigorous climber, it's best
displayed with the support of
a trellis or wall, but also
makes a brilliant hanging garden.

While
much of the information in these
tips is applicable in several
gardening zones/climates, some
of the plants and timing suggested
are best suited to the Northwest,
generally in the mild/wet growing
regions found along the I-5
corridor. You should make appropriate
adjustments or consult local
gardening experts in regions
whose climates differ from this
area of the Northwest. |
